Tour Details

Mai Chau is made up of a scattering of Thai villages set in a valley surrounded by sweeping mountains. It is the epitome of sleepy, rural life where the people rise with the sun to nature’s soundtrack. It is one of the most picturesque areas in the north-west of Vietnam and offers fantastic trekking opportunities. The nearby, Pu Luong Nature Reserve is also an area of outstanding beauty and biodiversity with great hiking routes.

Itinerary

Day 1: Ha Noi – Mai Chau – Pu Luong (L, D)

You will be collected from your hotel to begin the drive to Mai Chau with spectacular views unfolding around every bend. Upon arrival at Pom Coong Village in Mai Chau, you can take a walk around the village to meet the local Thai people.You will have lunch with a local family in their home. You will then travel to Phuc Tan Village in the afternoon, where you will take a 2 to 3-hour walk through beautiful hillside villages and magnificent rice paddies to Hang Village. The highlight of this walk is experiencing the beauty of Pu Luong Nature Reserve and seeing the everyday life and culture of the white Thai people. You will spend the night in a traditional Thai stilt house, complete with a delicious dinner of home cooked food.

Day 2: Pu Luong – Mai Chau – Ha Noi (B, L)

As you wake to the sound of nature stirring into action and the sun rising over the valley, the local Thai farmers will already be awake preparing for the day. You may wish to join the farmers or take a stroll around the village before having breakfast with your new friends. This morning, you trek through the Pu Luong Nature Reserve (back on some of the same routes) then onto the main road. After a 3-hour walk, the driver will pick you up and drive you Pom Coong Village for lunch. Leave Mai Chau at around 14:30 and will arrive back in Hanoi at around 18:00.
